The 7 Best Insurance Providers for Claims Management in 2026 – and the Worst

Homeowners facing property damage claims are getting repairs completed faster than last year, which helps offset some of the problems from rising premiums, according to JD Power.

The findings come from the JD Power 2026 US Property Claims Satisfaction Survey, which surveyed more than 5,000 homeowners insurance customers who filed a claim during the past nine months.

The survey measured satisfaction on eight factors, including the fairness of the deal, trust, time and experience of the digital channel.

Quick fix, happy customers

Overall customer satisfaction with the property search process increased by 20 points this year to 702 out of 1,000 points. That improvement came despite 19% of customers facing triple increases in insurance-triggered premiums, out-of-pocket costs and co-payments of $1,000 or more.

The average time to complete a repair decreased to 29.6 days, down 2.8 days from last year. Final payment now arrives on average 40.7 days, which is 3.4 days faster than before.

Mark Garrett, director of insurance intelligence at JD Power, comments summarizing the findings:

“There has been no shortage of spirits in customer satisfaction with the experience of building applications this year, especially when it comes to the financial burden faced by customers, but carriers have really been able to combat the negative effects of high prices by delivering exceptional service.”

Direct maintenance programs speed up repair times

One factor that makes quick decisions is the use of direct maintenance programs. This is where insurance brokers connect homeowners with contractors from their approved network. About 41% of customers have used these systems and are seeing very fast startup times.

For high intensity claims, those using direct repair programs experienced timelines that averaged more than two weeks shorter than customers who went through the other route.

Digital tools are gaining momentum

Insurers have also invested heavily in digital capabilities, and customers are using them. The study found the following:

  • 38% of customers used digital tools to report their first claim
  • 49% submitted photos to help estimate or settle their claim
  • 45% received updates through digital channels

Customers who engaged with digital tools in each of these touchpoints reported higher satisfaction than those who did not.

There is still room for improvement

While 51% of customers said their insurance fully met expectations of how their policy would perform and 15% said expectations were exceeded, 34% reported that their policy fell short of their expectations.

Common complaints among dissatisfied customers include a lack of explanation or discussion about the rate or compensation, high out-of-pocket costs and having to contact the insurer regularly for updates.

Best home insurance claims processing

The following are homeowner insurance companies with an overall customer satisfaction score above a 702 average on a 1,000 point scale.

  1. Amica: 773
  2. Hartford: 756
  3. Chubb: 744
  4. Liberty Mutual: 722
  5. Cross country: 720
  6. Erie Insurance: 719
  7. Advanced Home: 704

A calmer hurricane season and fewer large-scale weather events likely contributed to an improved experience for customers as well. This has given insurers breathing room to focus on service rather than problem management.

Worst home insurance claims processing

Here are the companies that scored lower than the average score of 702 out of 1,000:

  • The American family: 700
  • They don’t travel: 700

  • State Farm: 690
  • Car Owners Insurance: 681
  • Allstate: 672
  • Safeco: 666
  • Home area: 657

For homeowners still shopping for coverage or evaluating their current insurance policy, application processing speed and digital communication options may need to be weighed against premium costs.
