Insurance News: The opportunity for productive AI and the importance of responsible implementation | Insurance Blog

As with any new technology, and the opportunities it opens up, there are concerns about the unintended consequences AI produces and the need for responsible implementation. We’re delighted to have on-demand hotspot Kenneth Saldanha on this episode of Insurance News Review to discuss this important topic and are delighted to be joined by industry legend Bruce Hentschel.

We discussed the case of a 76-year-old man in the UK whose claim was denied after a house fire because he failed to tick a box on his policy application. This unfortunate incident underscores the importance of insurance companies understanding their customers, including important changes in demographics, and designing claims processes that effectively communicate the value of the information being collected and how Gen AI can play a role.

We discussed that instead of relying on customers to identify previous claims, generative AI can analyze data and present customers with verified information for verification.

We also discussed the possibility of providing insurance policies to cover the ways in which productive AI can go. Responsible AI is the key to harnessing the power of productive AI while minimizing risk. Insurers must keep people informed and use AI as a tool to drive insights, automation, and higher levels of service. By learning from the online insurance framework, insurers can focus on certain types of losses initially and gradually increase coverage as the market develops. Finding the balance between risk management and harnessing the power of generative AI is critical to long-term success.
