DoorDash is offering an assistance program to its drivers as the price of gas rises

DoorDash is launching a new emergency assistance program for its drivers, hoping to help amid rising gas prices as the war in Iran continues.

The delivery service’s new program is set to offer 10% cash back to DoorDash Dashers who fill up on gas, including those using DoorDash cards. Weekly assistance payments will also be available to eligible drivers, the company said.

As gas prices remain high for some, here’s what you need to know about a new program to help Dashers.

DoorDash’s new program allows Dashers in the United States to earn 10% cash back on electricity when they use the DoorDash Crimson card. Weekly assistance payments are also available to Dashers who drive 125 miles or more during a run, the company said in a statement.

Dashes that qualify for rebates and assistance payments can save between $1.40-$1.90 per gallon based on miles driven while completing weekly deliveries, according to the release.

Dashes with the DoorDash Crimson Visa Debit card will earn 10% cash back on all eligible gas purchases at the pump, including at any US gas station, whether or not they are engaged in DoorDash delivery. Dashers who do not have a DoorDash Crimson card can use the Dasher app.

Additionally, eligible Dashers who drive 125 or more miles on a delivery will receive a weekly fuel assistance payment starting at $5 and potentially increasing to $15 per week, depending on how many miles are driven, according to the release.

“This is particularly impactful for Dashers in rural or urban areas who may travel many miles for deliveries,” the release said. “Dashmen can save about $1 to $1.50 a gallon on weekly utility bills alone, depending on how many miles they run.”

Drivers who own electric vehicles or are thinking about getting one can also receive assistance benefits, with DoorDash offering dedicated programs to help lower the cost of a new car and reduce charging costs, according to the release. DoorDash Crimson cardholders earn 2% cash back on EV charging purchases, while all DoorDash drivers can earn discounts on EV charging.

The program will continue until April 26, DoorDash said in a release.

Cody Aughney, vice president of Dasher and Logistics at DoorDash, said in a release that rising gas prices have had an impact on Dashers, especially those who deliver a lot of goods.

“This program is all about giving Dashers real savings at the pump,” Aughney said.

DoorDash’s relief program comes as gas prices have soared in the United States amid the Iran war, putting pressure on the wallets of Dashers and consumers alike.

Consumers have seen prices jump nearly $1 a tap in the past three weeks, while the United States, Israel and Iran enter a new phase in the ongoing war, where oil and gas have become key targets for both sides.

The national average for a gallon of gasoline was $3.928 at noon on March 23, up one dollar from a month ago.
