Benefits
- $1,500 Bonus: earn $1,500 cash back after spending $50,000 in the first 3 months.
- Earn 5% cash back on prepaid flights and hotels with AmEx Travel; earn 2% on everything else.
- With this card, you can get access to the Amex Offer, which often offers great discounts at other stores, such as: spend $15 or more and get $5 back at Walmart; spend $75 or more and get $25 back at Amazon.com.
- This card is very easy to get approved, because it is a charge card, not a credit card. A charge card means you don’t have the option to make a down payment, you have to pay your balance in full on the due date. Applying for a charge card will lead to a bad debt, just like applying for a credit card.
- Debit Cards do not have a set spending limit.
- There is no foreign currency.
Evil
- $295 annual fee, NO first year fee.
Recommended Application Period
- You can only get a welcome bonus once in a lifetime, so be sure to apply when the historically highest offers appear.
- AmEx does not care about the amount of withdrawals.
- You can try to apply if you have a credit history of 6 months.
Summary
This card is actually a direct 2% cashback card. What’s confusing is that 2% annual cash back is already the industry standard—so why did AmEx introduce a new 2% cash back card with a $295 annual fee? Comparing it with personal cards is unnecessary. Among business cards, both the Chase Ink Premier and the Capital One Spark Cash have lower annual fees. The only plausible explanation is that AmEx believes that the charge card feature—which has no set spending limit—allows for too much spending, and that this alone allows for an annual fee. As long as the card’s credit limit isn’t a barrier to how many rewards you can earn, there’s really no reason to keep this card for long. Yes, you may still qualify for the welcome bonus.
