About 7.5 million Americans rely on Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, each month to help cover essentials. But in March, recipients may notice something different about their paycheck — ie, that it did not arrive as it usually does.

SSI is a Social Security program that provides monthly support to low-income Americans who are blind or disabled, and to seniors 65 and older with limited resources. Because the first day of the month fell on a Sunday, the Social Security Administration (SSA) released March benefits early – on Friday, Feb. 27, instead. While the time change can be confusing, it’s just a glitch in the billing calendar, not a missing check.

When are the March 2026 SSI checks coming out?

SSI payments usually go out on the first of the month, but if the first of the month falls on a weekend or state holiday, SSA changes the payment date to the previous business day. It is not an unusual situation. SSI recipients received their February SSI check on Friday, Jan. 30, because Feb. 1 was on Sunday. And January’s SSI check arrived on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, to account for New Year’s Day.

This month, March payments were posted on February 27, as March 1 fell on a Sunday. That said, there won’t be any SSI payments issued in March — if you’re eligible, you should have already received them.

The next SSI check will come out on April 1.

March Social Security payment schedule

People who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits — or who began collecting Social Security before May 1997 — will receive their Social Security payments on Tuesday, March 3, according to the SSA’s regular schedule.

All other Social Security recipients will be paid in March according to a regular schedule based on date of birth. If your birthday is between the 1st and 10th of the month, your check will arrive on March 11. If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th, your check will arrive on March 18. And if your birthday is between the 21st and 31st, your check will arrive on March 25.

Months through 2026 without SSI payments

Here’s how the SSI payment schedule plays out through the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027, according to the SSA’s benefit payment calendar:

  • Feb. 27, 2026: March early payment (March 1 is a Sunday)
  • April 1, 2026: Regular April payment
  • May 1, 2026: Regular May payment
  • June 1, 2026: Regular June payment
  • July 1, 2026: Regular July payment
  • July 31, 2026: Early payment for August (Aug. 1 falls on a Saturday)
  • September 1, 2026: Regular September payment
  • October 1, 2026: Regular October payment
  • October 30, 2026: Early payment for November (Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday)
  • December 1, 2026: Regular December payment
  • December 31, 2026: Early payment for January 2027 (due to New Year’s Day)

March, August and November will not have independent SSI payments this year to account for weekends and holidays. Recipients will receive their benefits at the end of the previous month, as stated in the payment schedule above.
