When Are State Taxes Due? Here are the 2026 Deadlines
Attention, procrastinators: Tax Day is coming, which means it’s time to go if you haven’t filed your 2025 federal income tax. Time flies, too, if you live in one of the 41 states that levy an individual tax on wages and salary income.
Although most states show an IRS deadline of April 15, there are exceptions. Here are the federal tax deadlines you need to know about in 2026.
Alabama
Alabama state income tax returns for 2025 are due by April 15; you can get an automatic six-month extension until Oct. 15 for paperwork — not payment — only.
In Arizona
Arizona state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
Arkansas
Arkansas state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
California
California state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15, although you may have an automatic extension on Oct. 15. Note that this deadline is for submitting your paperwork, though – any balance you owe is still due on April 15.
In Colorado
Colorado state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15. If you pay at least 90% of your balance due by that date, you can get an automatic filing extension of six months.
Connecticut
Connecticut state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
Delaware
Delaware state income taxes for 2025 are due by April 30.
Georgia
Georgia state taxes for 2025 are due April 15.

Hawaii
Hawaii state taxes for 2025 are due by April 20. You can get an automatic six-month extension if you owe a refund or pay your estimated tax by April 20.
Idaho
Idaho state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15. You can get an automatic filing extension if you pay 80% of your estimated 2025 tax bill or 100% of your 2024 tax bill by April 15.
Illinois
Illinois state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15. You can get an automatic six-month extension if you pay your taxes on time.
In Indiana
Indiana state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
Iowa
Iowa state tax returns for 2025 are due by April 30. The state will give you an automatic extension until Oct. 31 if you pay at least 90% of your total tax liability by the April 30 deadline.
Kansas
Kansas state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.

Kentucky state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.

Montana state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15. You can get an automatic six-month extension, but only for filing.
Nebraska
Nebraska state taxes for 2025 are due April 15.
New Jersey
New Jersey state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15. You can get an automatic six-month extension as long as you pay at least 80% of any taxes owed by April 15.
In New Mexico
New Mexico state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
New York
New York state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
North Carolina
North Carolina state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
North Dakota
North Dakota state taxes for 2025 are due April 15.
In Ohio
Ohio state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
In Oklahoma
Oklahoma state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15. But you can have until April 20 if you file electronically.
In Oregon
Oregon state taxes for 2025 are due April 15.

Pennsylvania state taxes for 2025 are due April 15.
Rhode Island
Rhode Island state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
South Carolina
South Carolina state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15, but you won’t be penalized or charged interest as long as you file and pay electronically by May 1.
Utah
Utah state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15. You can get an automatic six-month extension to file your return, but not pay your debt.
Vermont
Vermont state taxes for 2025 are due by April 15.
Virginia
Virginia state taxes for 2025 are due by May 1; you can get an automatic six-month extension, but your taxes still have to be paid on time.
West Virginia
West Virginia state taxes for 2025 are due April 15.
In Wisconsin
Wisconsin state taxes for 2025 are due April 15.
