Summary
BA miles used to be good for short-haul AA tickets in the US While they’re still a great value, price drops from BA and American Airlines have made the points less valuable than before. The sign-up bonus on this card is decent. BA Avios, IB Avios and EI Avios are transferable at a 1:1 ratio, so Chase IB and Chase EI are great complimentary cards to earn quick Avios with this Chase BA card. Each of these mileage programs has its own unique benefits. The daily spend structure is not attractive at all, so if you don’t fly BA regularly then this is the product to get for the signup bonus and then cancel after the first year.

After applying
- Call 800-436-7927 to check the status of your Chase application. This is an automated phone line, and the information has the following meanings: Getting a decision within 2 weeks means your application is likely to be approved; Getting a decision in 7-10 days means your application has probably been rejected; Getting a decision within 30 days means that your application needs further review and there is nothing to tell you yet.
- Find the back door number for Rethink: 888-270-2127 or 888-609-7805. Call it if you are not approved right away. Your personal information will be received and they will update it. You don’t usually answer questions, instead, you enjoy the music and it is approved or rejected, or more information is needed to be delivered to the branch or sent by fax.
