Debt and Credit

Commitment to Tithing

I found my favorite church here in Austin in early summer. Although I continued to attend other churches near me, I really loved this church. And now I can’t bear to miss the service.

And the best thing about me, or the two best things about me, is 1) it’s not easy at all. I don’t even have to think about what I wear. Without them keeping the building freezing cold, I can wear anything and no one looks at me. This has always been a BIG THING for me. Since I was young. I have always hated “dressing up”. Like hate!

And 2) they have a Saturday service. I have never been to a church that has a service on any other day of the week, but this one has 2 services on Saturdays and 3 services on Sundays. And I absolutely LOVE going to church on a Saturday afternoon.

I joined a small group during the summer. Then I started leading a small group in the fall. It continues on both this winter/spring as well.

All that you say…

Tithe 10%

Last month, they did a whole series on charity. I think many churches do it every year as a lead up to the end of the year spirit. I never really paid attention to it. He certainly never felt guilty about giving.

And I stopped tithing as soon as I started writing here with the excuse that that money needed to go to debt instead. Which in theory, might have been right, but the truth is, it didn’t happen. I dismissed it. Not wisely.

But that is in the past, and this is the 2026 version of Hope. And I learned a lot during my end of year series about giving. And I was convicted that I needed to start tithing again.

It’s all in…so it started quickly. This year. I will be donating 10% of all income to my church.

Are you giving? Do you tithe regularly or only when asked? Or do you feel that way?
