9 American Cities That Don’t Charge Property Taxes

Imagine not paying any property tax in your city. That’s true for homeowners in several communities across the US
In these areas, you may have to pay property taxes to another entity, such as the county where you live. But the city itself does not fit in your pocket.
Here are the cities where homeowners get a break on their property taxes.
Sedona, Arizona

Population: 9,700 from 2020
Although you won’t pay property taxes to the City of Sedona, you will owe the city’s monthly sewer and sales taxes.
Sedona is among the cities featured in the article “10 of the Best Places to Retire in Arizona (From Small Towns to Tucson).”
Peachtree Corners, Georgia

Population: 42,200 from 2020
You will not pay property taxes in the City of Peachtree Corners. However, you will owe property and vehicle taxes in Gwinnett County.
The bill you receive violates the levies imposed on the county, city and Gwinnett County public schools.
Apache Junction, Arizona

Population: 38,500 from 2020
On its website, the City of Apache Junction proudly asks residents to check their property taxes on the “city tax” line item. Then, it goes on to note that the line item “will be empty or contain zeros.”
Instead, Pinal County handles property taxes for homeowners in the county.
Sales taxes are a different matter. That rate in Apache Junction is 9.1%, which includes funds from the city, county and state. Of that, 2.4% goes to the city.
Ballwin, Missouri

Population: 31,100 from 2020
The city of Ballwin says it is “not currently assessing real estate taxes.” But residents should not be too happy – the St. Louis, local school districts and other agencies all collect property taxes.
In Ballwin, sales tax is 8.738% and service tax is 7%.
Stafford, Texas

Population: 17,700 from 2020
Go to the official website of the city of Stafford and the first thing you will see is this announcement: “A city with no city property tax.” However, Fort Bend County collects property taxes.
Oak Brook, Illinois

Population: 8,200 from 2020
Oak Brook does not collect property taxes. However, it has a sales tax rate of 7.5%. The town itself receives 1.5% of that money, the rest goes to other organizations.
Gun Barrel City, Texas

Population: 6,200 from 2020
Gun Barrel City does not collect property taxes. However, the city has a sales tax rate of 8.25%. Of that amount, 1% is earmarked for the city itself.
Fenton, Missouri

Population: 4,000 from 2020
Fenton has no municipal personal tax or real estate tax. Alas, the taxes of St. Louis County are active.
The sales tax rate in Fenton is 8.238% for non-food sales and 4.850% for qualifying food sales.
Maynardville, Tennessee

Population: 2,500 from 2020
