6 Things That Will Get Cheaper in 2026

Americans have become so accustomed to price increases year after year that the idea that the cost of anything goes away down you find it hard to believe.
And, of course, with annual inflation at an average rate of 2.7%, many prices are still rising. But there is an exception to this trend. It turns out that several notable consumer goods are predicted to become less expensive in 2026.
Some of the items that make the list are goods found around the world. Others, such as coffee and cocoa, are finally recovering from climate and tax-related price shocks.
From gas prices to concert tickets, here are six things that could get cheaper in 2026:
Car insurance (in some states)
After increasing more than 50% in the three-year period from 2022 to early 2025, auto insurance premiums are stable and flat for the year.
In several states, auto insurance prices will now drop through 2026. In Louisiana, the largest auto insurer – State Farm – has confirmed a 5.9% reduction in rates from Jan. 1. Drivers there will start seeing those savings when their policies are renewed.
“I’m pleased to see positive movement in auto rates in Louisiana for the first time in years,” said Tim Temple, the state’s insurance commissioner, in a news release, adding that “a reduction in the frequency of personal injury claims” can be attributed to the rate reduction.
Nationally, the insurer says “millions” of its customers will “welcome the new year with big savings, thanks to lower car prices.”
Rates also fell in Florida, by about 6%. Announcing auto insurance refunds for Progressive customers, Gov. Ron DeSantis has proposed “statewide enforcement and insurance reform efforts,” leading to 2025 rate cuts for some of the largest insurance companies, the governor added in an October release.
Coffee
At one point this year, US coffee prices were rising faster than any other grocery item following bad weather in Brazil and other coffee-producing countries.
According to a World Bank report published in December, however, coffee prices are expected to return to Earth by 2026.
“As production recovers – particularly in Colombia, the world’s second largest Arabica producer – Arabica prices are expected to drop by 13%,” the World Bank report said. (Arabica is the most widely produced coffee bean, so this should translate into significant savings.)
Also: American exporters still face a 40% tariff on coffee, since coffee was part of the exemption list in November for items that the US does not produce in reasonable quantities.
Concert tickets
Fans, rejoice! Concert ticket prices are finally coming down after years of increases.
According to a report from Pollstar earlier this month, the average ticket price was $134.23 in North America for the top 100 artists – a decrease of 1.6% from last year. Globally, prices are down 2.4% from last year.
The trend isn’t quite the same, though: Smaller places are where the buyers are indeed to get cheap tickets. The average ticket price for arena shows is actually up 18.3% from last year, averaging $216.13 worldwide.
Other food items
Overall, economists say grocery prices are “unlikely” to fall. Food prices are expected to increase by 2.7% in 2026, according to a forecast by the US Department of Agriculture. Grocery stores and food suppliers are generally resistant to lowering prices as much as possible as long as customer demand is high.
But given the volatility of food prices, there are always ups and downs available.
For example, bananas have resisted inflation in recent years – until tariffs in Central American countries took effect this year. Prices rose 6.7%, according to the November consumer price index report. But the Trump administration announced tariff relief in November, and officials now expect lower prices for American consumers.
A World Bank report from October indicated that sugar prices will continue to fall globally in 2026 after a five-year low. Coconut oil and cocoa are also predicted to see significant price declines of 10% and 6.3%, respectively.
Gas prices
Motorists enjoyed the lowest pump prices in four years in December, with the national average at $2.87 as of Dec. 19, according to GasBuddy.
GasBuddy’s head of fuel analysis, Patrick De Haan, told Fox Business that lower oil prices should pave the way for another year of lower gas prices.
“The situation still looks bad for drivers next year,” he said. “I think 2026 will bring another year of lower gas prices. That will make it the fourth year in a row.”
Fuel prices currently benefit from seasonal factors. The US Energy Information Administration predicts $3 gas by 2026.
In the latest short-term energy outlook, the EIA said crude oil inventories “will continue to rise through 2026, putting downward pressure on oil prices in the coming months.” Crude oil makes up about 50% of what drivers pay for a gallon of gas.
Weight loss drugs
Since it was approved in 2021 in 2021 for certain people, Ozempic has been one of the hottest prescription drugs on the market, along with Wegovy and others.
These drugs still carry a high price tag, but as supply increases, costs are expected to decrease.
In November, Novo Nordisk, the Danish drugmaker that makes both drugs, announced a US price drop, dropping the price of a standard dose to $349 a month. And in December, Eli Lilly lowered the prices of its GLP-1 drug, Zepbound, dropping prices by $50 or $100 depending on the dose to $299 to $449. This latest price move is designed to increase market share in the booming segment of the medical industry.
